Which Motorcycle Licence Do You Need?

Not sure which licence applies to you? Here’s a simple guide. However feel free to call us and we can help exlpain the process for your individual needs.

RN – Moped Licence

Suitable for:

> Mopeds up to 50cc

> Maximum speed 50km/h

Minimum age: 16 years

RN training is conducted on your own motorcycle.

RE – Restricted Motorcycle Licence

This is the licence most new riders start with.

Suitable for:

> LAMS-approved motorcycles

> Generally motorcycles up to 660cc

Minimum age: 17 years

R – Open Motorcycle Licence

For riders moving beyond the RE licence.

Suitable for:

> Motorcycles over 660cc

> Higher-powered motorcycles outside LAMS regulations

Requirements:

> Must already hold an RE licence

> RE licence must be held for at least 2 years

R Class training is conducted on your own motorcycle.

REA – Restricted Automatic Motorcycle Licence

Suitable for:

> Automatic motorcycles

> Scooters

> Motorcycles without a clutch

Minimum age: 17 years

What is a LAMS Motorcycle?

LAMS stands for Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme.

These motorcycles are approved for learner and novice riders because they meet specific power-to-weight requirements.

> Yamaha MT-03

> Yamaha R3

> Kawasaki Ninja 400

> Kawasaki Z500

> KTM Duke 390

Getting Started with RE Class licence

Step 1 – Obtain Your Learner’s Permit

Visit the Department of Transport website and apply for your learner’s permit.

Step 2 – Start Your Training

Once you have your permit, contact us and begin learning with a qualified instructor here at Local motorcycle school.

We’ll guide you through the process to meet the standard set byt the department of transport. That will include

     > Motorcycle safety gear attire

     > Motorcycle controls

     > Slow-speed riding

     > Roadcraft

     > Hazard awareness

     > Emergency braking

     > Traffic skills

     > Practical assessment preparation

 

Step 3 – Hazard Perception Test (HPT)

If required, you’ll need to complete the HPT through the Department of Transport before progressing to your assessment.

 

Step 4 – Practical Driving Assessment (PDA)

Once you’re ready, you’ll complete your PDA with the Department of Transport.

Please note:

We do not conduct assessments or book tests.

Test bookings are made directly through the Department of Transport.

First-Time Licence Holders

If this is your first licence of any kind, Department of Transport requirements may include:

     > 50 hours supervised riding, composed of 45 hours daytime riding and 5 hours night riding

     > Learner logbook, to log these hours.

     > Hazard Perception Test

     > Provisional licence period (P Plates)

If you already hold a car licence, some of these requirements may not apply.

Refresher Lessons

Already licensed but haven’t ridden for a while?

A refresher lesson can help you rebuild confidence and sharpen your skills.

Perfect if:

> You’ve had a long break from riding

> You’re nervous in traffic

> You’ve bought a new motorcycle

> You want to improve your riding skills

Refresher lessons are usually conducted on your own motorcycle.

However we can still supply a low powered hond acb125e vehicle if you do not have a bike.

Individual Lessons

> 1 Hour — $79

> 1.5 Hours — $115

> 2 Hours — $150

Gold Package

5 Hours Training — $350

Save $45 compared to individual lesson rates.

A $50 deposit is required to secure your booking.

The remaining balance is payable before the lesson commences.

We understand that plans change.

To avoid cancellation fees:

> Provide at least 1 full business day’s notice.

> Late cancellations may be charged at the full lesson fee.

> Missed bookings may be charged in full.

> If we fill your cancelled appointment, cancellation fees may be waived.

We primarily train throughout:

> Wellard

> Rockingham

> Baldivis

> Kwinana

> Success

> Surrounding southern suburbs

If you’re located further away, give us a call.

We may be able to arrange a customised training session.

The same applies if your Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) is booked at a location other than Rockingham or Success.
